Data and Image Archive & Retrieval

Information from both Conventional and Image-based check and remittance processing can be archived for later use.

Active-image Archive (AiA) provides long term storage and retrieval functions of item images and associated data. These may be stored on magnetic media, optical disc or CD/DVD, or other suitable media. Images and data can be rapidly retrieved and displayed at customer service workstations for research, print, and electronic output. AiA is an efficient and cost effective method for the replacement of microfilm. With the use of AiA, significant savings can realized in the labor and time associated with item research, and levels of client service and satisfaction can be dramatically increased.

AiA permits the retrieval of images in many different ways. Individual items and transactions, and entire batches may be retrieved. Outgoing bundles can be re-built in case of loss of items during transit.

AiA also serves as the repository for images for image statements. When combined with the Image Statement Print System, AiA can eliminate fine sort and the manual collation of checks to account statements.

AiA has been implemented using object oriented software technology. It employs Windows® based workstations for maximum ease of use.

AiA provides direct benefits by:

  • Reducing the labor involved in researching items,
  • Improving customer satisfaction and service through extremely rapid response to inquiries,
  • Improving the image of the bank's clients with their customers and associates,
  • Creating new opportunities for revenue. Different rates can be charged to customers for inquiries depending on whether the inquiry is resolved over the phone, the customer requires a mailed hardcopy of the image or is willing to pick it up, or if they want an immediate fax or transmission of the image for example.

Information stored can be used to support added value products and services for customers in terms of statement delivery. Customers can be supplied with images of their payment items in a convenient medium in place of the physical items being returned to them. This reduces cost, as images are easier to store, sort, retrieve and distribute, and from the customers perspective they are also easier to store and access. Not only can this improve service to customers, but can reduce the number of item queries as customers will have all their information at their fingertips. (See Statements AiS)

DATA MINING

Data mining can be defined as the process of unearthing patterns within seemingly random data. Using a wide variety of techniques, such as statistical analysis, mathematical modelling and database analysis, data mining can find patterns in data that might be used to predict future behaviour.

Typical applications might be found in credit scoring, purchase likelihood or the evaluation of marketing activity through analysis of purchase activity.

Aperta’s Active-image Archive (AiA) stores, manages, distributes and retrieves data to provide the raw material for the application of data mining techniques. The Windows®-based format of data archived by AiA makes it ideal to be used as a front-end for sophisticated data mining applications.

The benefits will be seen in being able to tailor promotions to those customers most likely to respond, cross-selling of new products and services, and improved customer retention.
